Boss Lane House

Boss Lane House is a distinguished historical property nestled in the heart of Hughenden Valley, rich with stories from Britain's illustrious past. Once serving as Churchill's secret war office, the house played a discreet yet vital role during a pivotal period in history. It is also renowned as the former home of Lillie Langtry, the famed socialite and actress who was the lover of King Edward VII, adding an air of royal intrigue to its legacy.

Alderbourne Landscapes had the privilege of restoring the historic gardens of Boss Lane House, bringing new life to its timeless landscape. With a deep respect for the property’s heritage, our team carefully revitalised traditional planting schemes, reinstated period-appropriate pathways, and restored mature borders to reflect the garden's original elegance. Every element was meticulously planned and executed to preserve the historical integrity while enhancing the natural beauty of the grounds. The result is a harmonious blend of past and present, ensuring that the gardens of Boss Lane House continue to be a fitting tribute to its remarkable history.

Miltons Cottage

Milton’s House in Chalfont St Giles is a treasured historical property, renowned for its rich literary heritage and cultural significance. This Grade II Registered Historic Garden is famously known as “that pretty little box in the Chalfonte,” where the great poet John Milton found refuge from the plague in 1665. It was within these walls that Milton completed his epic masterpiece Paradise Lost, a poem that shaped English literature and contributed more words to the English language than Shakespeare himself. The tranquil garden is said to have inspired Milton’s creativity, providing a peaceful sanctuary that nurtured his visionary work.

Alderbourne Landscapes was honoured to restore the historic gardens of Milton’s House, preserving the character and essence that once inspired one of the greatest poets in history. Our team carefully revitalised traditional planting schemes, reinstated heritage pathways, and nurtured the mature borders, ensuring every detail echoed the garden’s original design. The restoration was carried out with sensitivity and precision, maintaining the authenticity of the landscape while enhancing its natural beauty. Today, the garden stands as a living tribute to Milton’s legacy, offering visitors a glimpse into the serene setting that shaped his extraordinary work.
